Ageless Fillers Aftercare: Cosmetic Fillers in the First 48 Hours (and What to Avoid)
By Ageless by Natasha RN | September 26, 2026
If you found me by searching med spa near me and you’re here for clear, practical aftercare, you’re in the right spot.
A lot of people tell me they picked me because the appointment felt “fun, kind and calm” and the results were amazing. I love hearing that. The most important rule after cosmetic fillers is simple: hands off and keep your body cool for 48 hours. That means no rubbing or massaging the treated area unless I show you a specific technique, and no heat, heavy workouts, or alcohol while swelling settles. If you’re in Mesa, our sun and heat can make this part trickier, so don’t wing it.
First 24 to 48 hours: the rules that protect your filler shape
Fillers are an art and they’re also a physical product settling into tissue. In the first two days, your goal is to keep swelling and bruising down and avoid putting pressure on what I just placed.
48-hour avoid list: heat (saunas, hot tubs, hot yoga), intense sun, heavy exercise, and alcohol. These tend to increase swelling and bruising.
Hands-off means hands-off
Don’t rub, press, or massage injection sites unless I specifically instruct you. Even “just checking” in the mirror can turn into poking. If you’re wearing a mask, keep it loose and avoid anything tight that presses on the treated area for two nights. Same idea for glasses if we treated the under-eye or midface area.
Swelling and bruising care that actually helps
For swelling, I generally recommend a cold compress in short rounds: 10 to 15 minutes every hour while you’re awake on day one. Keep it gentle. No ice directly on skin. If you need something for discomfort, acetaminophen is usually the first pick. I also suggest avoiding NSAIDs (like ibuprofen/naproxen) unless I’ve told you it’s okay for your situation, since they can worsen bruising.
- Sleep with your head elevated for two nights.
- Skip facials, facial tools, and strong skin treatments right away.
- Plan around Mesa heat. If you’re out along the East Mesa and McDowell Road corridor, keep errands quick and stay cool.
The first week: what to keep doing so you look even and natural
A common theme people share after seeing me for injectables is that I take my time and explain everything. That matters in week one, because small habits add up. Swelling can come and go, and it’s normal to feel a little lumpy at first in areas like lips. Don’t panic and don’t push on it.
If you’re commuting along US-60 or Loop 202 near the McDowell Road corridor, keep workouts light for a couple days, then ease back in. Think walking and gentle movement first. I’d rather you look a touch puffy for 48 hours than create extra bruising that hangs around for a week.
Mesa sun note: give your skin a break. Avoid long, direct sun exposure for the first few days and keep SPF consistent, especially if you bruise easily.
And if we treated sensitive areas, like dermal fillers under eyes, be extra mindful about pressure from sleeping face-down or rubbing when you’re tired.
Skincare, makeup, and routines that keep fillers happy
Keep your skincare simple right after dermal fillers. A gentle cleanser, bland moisturizer, and sunscreen are usually plenty for the first couple days. Skip anything that stings or heats up the skin, like strong acids, retinoids, or exfoliating scrubs, until you’re past the tender stage.
When can you wear makeup?
If you have any pinpoint injection sites, I prefer you wait at least 24 hours before applying makeup directly over them. It’s a simple way to lower irritation risk. If you need to be camera-ready sooner, let me know and I’ll talk you through the cleanest way to do it.
Quick reminder: if you came in for Lip Filler or you’re searching for lip fillers near me, don’t plan a big spicy meal right after. Heat and spice can make lips look and feel more swollen.
If you’re doing other wellness services with me, like iv hydration, peptides, or weight loss support, tell me what’s on your schedule so I can time everything in a way that keeps swelling predictable.
When I want you to reach out right away (and when it’s just normal swelling)
I take aftercare seriously. One client described the whole process as “seamless” from consultation through aftercare, and that’s exactly how I want it to feel for you too. If something seems off, I’d rather you check in early.
“From the consultation through to the aftercare, the entire process was seamless.”

Red flags: severe pain, rapidly spreading redness, expanding bruising, skin blanching or a pale/gray color change, or numbness. Contact me immediately. If you can’t reach me quickly and symptoms feel urgent, seek urgent care.
Normal things I hear about include tenderness, swelling that peaks in the first couple days, and mild unevenness that settles as swelling drops. If you’re in Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Tempe, Queen Creek, or Apache Junction, I keep space for quick post-care checks when needed, especially for busy families juggling work and childcare.
